Hantsport Fire Station
The Design-Bid- Build delivery of the Hantsport Bay Fire Station presented many learning experiences working with Municipal government. The Municipality of West Hants has been under the microscope to replace the ageing station, council interaction and community input was a hurdle the team managed very well. In the case of Hantsport we were required to remove the old station and site infrastructure prior to erecting the new facility.

Acadia Science Complex Renewal
The original Elliott Hall and Huggins Science had remained untouched since originally constructed in 1960 and 1970. The interior renovations of the three storey Elliott Hall (34,850 sq.ft.) included new science labs, offices, a lecture theatre, classrooms, storage areas and major mechanical system upgrades. The exterior envelope reconstruction of Huggins Science Hall (103,100 sq.ft.) included new envelope and finish materials resulting in an upgraded thermal envelope. We also introduced a rooftop solar photovoltaic array to assist in energy collection. Expansion of the existing Huggins/Elliott connector to create a new Innovation Pavilion, which includes a new two storey 10,000 sq.ft. addition for community research labs and associated spaces with barrier free student and faculty access.

Wallace McCain Learning Commons Life Sciences
Newly constructed 13,500 sq.ft. Learning Commons addition to the existing life sciences building within the Dalhousie Complex. The commons was to provide a new entrance/focal gateway for the Life Science Faculty. The site had many challenges squeezed in-between two very distinctive traditional buildings. The building was designed to extend the existing subterranean concrete structure, with occupied roof garden/lawn space, providing exterior learning/study spaces. The use of materials was chosen to reflect the pure nature of each: high quality finished concrete, natural timber, copper metal for the main façade to provide an ever changing façade – the living material. The interior accommodates various computer lab areas; group study/meeting rooms, intimate spaces, quiet study areas, Academic Resource Centre, staff room and associated ancillary spaces.
